Miss G’s Story
Working at Bakersfield Recovery Services I am able to take my experience, strength and hope full circle. I want you to know that you are not alone and that there are people that truly understand your unique circumstances. People that do care, and will take the time to explain and show you how you too can do this one day at a time. Bakersfield Recovery Services truly is one of Bakersfield’s Crown Jewels. A very unique blend of Staff that you won’t find anywhere else. I urge you to trust the process and take a step of faith. You CAN do this.
My name is Gina Marie, or Miss G for short. My Sobriety date is 10-17-1992. Trust me when I say that I did this one day at a time, sometimes minutes at a time. If I can do this so can you. I was 30 years of age and a Mother of a 2 1/2-year-old daughter, and a 15-year-old Son. I was married, and struggling to keep it together- I tried everything I knew to change my life-but I could not. My self-esteem and Mental Health were greatly suffering, so were my close relationships with friends and family, along with my relationships at my place of employment. After I completed detox in a mental institution for 30 days, my Sister urged me to consider Residential Treatment. Reluctantly I checked myself into a Women’s Residential Treatment Facility and I have never looked back. There I was introduced to HOPE! I was able to take the much needed time to simply focus on me. I was able to find my way out of Alcoholism and Drug Addiction. By participating in both Residential Treatment and Sober Living I was introduced to someone new… ME! I had the opportunity to develop several types of coping skills, develop the critical thinking that seemed to allude me, and became to understand the importance of sober support. I was opened to making new friends, feeling alright with being genuinely happy, and being introduced to the most amazing mentor’s ever. Everyone along the way showed me how to apply practical tools that I could use. Clear away the wreckage of your past. Give freely of what you find and join us. We shall be with you in the Fellowship of the Spirit, and you will surely meet some of us as you trudge the Road of Happy Destiny.
May God bless you and keep you – until then.
